Thai police investigates the bombing site (Source: EPA/VNA)Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand’s authorities on May 24 ruled out the possibility of southerninsurgency group’s involvement in a bombing attack at the Phra Mongkutklaomilitary hospital in Bangkok and believed political motive was behind theattack.
Royal ThaiPolice Deputy Commissioner Srivara Rangsibhramanakul said there was no evidenceto indicate that the May 22 bombing was connected to the armed group in thesouth.
It closelyresembles five bombing attacks during the period of political unrest in 2007due to similarities of bomb fragments and explosive collected by forensicsexperts, he noted.
The officeralso revealed that three days prior to the bombing, a warning was sent toThailand’s National Cancer Institute near the military hospital and it was nota normal move of the southern group.
The blastoccurred on May 22, which was the day when the military junta seized power fromthe Yingluck government three years ago. It happened in front of the“Wongsuwan” room inside the hospital that was named after Thai Minister ofDefence Prawit Wongsuwan who was reportedly treated at the hospital.
Investigatorssaid it is likely that the bombing was carried out by a well-organisedpolitical group with link to foreign nations.
In arelated move, former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visited victims of theattack on the same day while Pheu Thai Party issued a statement condemning itas an inhumane act.-VNA
