Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai Royal Police affirmed that therehas been no evidence of Thai citizens’ support for the self-claimed IslamicStates (IS) despite statistics on access to this organisation’s websites fromThailand.
Spokesman of the Thai Royal Police Piyayan Pingmuang said thatsome Internet users in Thailand follow the terrorist group’s social networksbut have yet to conduct illegal actions. He also declared that the country hasenough measures to prevent terrorist attacks.
Deputy National Police Chief Srivarah Rangsipramanakul stated onthe same day that no citizens are found to provide financial support for IS aswell as there is no connection of recent violence in Thailand’s south regionwith activities of the terrorist group.
Earlier, Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha directed securityagencies to investigate a report of the Australian Federation Police sayingthat some Thais were involved with IS by seeking information on the socialnetworks and websites of the group.
Accordingly, he ordered a thorough investigation into the case asa preventive security measure, given that IS-initiated attacks in manycountries have threaten lives of thousands of people.-VNA
