Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Chiang Rai in northern Thailand is organising its 6th Amazing 10 Tribes of MaeSai event to showcase the local heritage of its ethnic people.
Privy Councilor Palakorn Suwannarat chaired the opening ceremony of the event.He was welcomed by the Chief District Officer of Mae Sai Somsak Khanakam,local leaders and representatives from ethnic groups.
For six years, Chiang Rai has worked with 10 local administrative organizationsto organize the event, which has continuously gained interest from tourists.This year, the province aims to elevate the scale of the event to be one ofChiang Rai's major highlights. The 10 participating ethnic groups include Yuan,Lu, Shan, Khun, Ya, Yunnan, Lahu, Akha, Dara-ang and Lawa people.
All 10 groups will showcase their way of life, traditions and local wisdom topromote cultural preservation and diversity.
Furthermore, this year the event includes ethnic tribes from Myanmar and Laoswho will also display their products and ways of life. In addition toshowcasing the unique cultures of each tribe, the event also promotes peacefulcoexistence between all ethnic groups, according to the monarchy's initiativeof promoting a unified and peaceful kingdom. – NNT/VNA
