Thailand: Foreign diplomats study royal initiative projects in southern province

The Foreign Ministry of Thailand took a group of foreign ambassadors and their spouses on a field trip to study the royal initiative projects in Phang Nga province, southern Thailand.

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The Foreign Ministry of Thailand took a group offoreign ambassadors and their spouses on a field trip to study the royalinitiative projects in Phang Nga province, southern Thailand.

During the weekend field trip, the foreign diplomats visited the Third NavalArea Command in Thai Mueang district to observe activities carried out by theSea Turtle Conservation Centre. The main activities include raising andtreating sea turtles before releasing them into the Andaman Sea.

The entourage then visited the Chaipattana - Thai Red Cross Village Project inKuraburi district. There, the group observed the project’s activities topromote and develop careers as well as efforts to rehabilitate and conserve thevillage’s natural resources and environment, following the tsunami disaster in2004. The activities are carried out in accordance with the royal initiative ofHer Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who wishes for the peopleto have accommodations and sustainable careers in line with the SufficiencyEconomy philosophy.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Virasakdi Futrakul, said the project oftaking foreign ambassadors and their spouses to observe and study the royalinitiative projects will allow them to experience the local way of life andunderstand the country’s history, besides the popular tourist destinations. Hesaid the project has received a positive response from the foreign diplomats,who have expressed their admiration for His Majesty King Rama IX for hisselfless sacrifice for the people.–NNT/VNA
