Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand has launched a campaign to boost industrial products export to Vietnam, Somchai Harnhiran, director general of the Thai Ministry of Industry's Department of Industrial Promotion said on March 14.

Thai small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are being encouraged to manufacture and export goods to the Vietnamese market, Thailand's 4th largest trade partner in the ASEAN region, he said.

Vietnam is believed to be looking for diversity in designs and brand names for industrial goods, including those from Thailand, he said, adding that the department is ready to support the SMEs through its marketing promotional plans for Vietnam-bound merchandise.

The Vietnamese market has purchased 12 billion USD worth of Thai goods in a year, including electronic items, construction materials, chemical-cosmetic products, garment, and leather products, according to the Department head.

According to the Ministry’s statistics, Thailand’s export value in January was 15.7 billion USD, decreasing by 8.9 percent compared to the same period last year. It marked the 14th month of decline and the lowest value since November 2011.-VNA
