Bangkok (VNA) - Sixteen people, most of them children, were injured when a tent collapsed during a Children's Day show outside a shopping centre in Bangkok on January 9, according to local police.
Among the injured were at least 12 children, aged 6 to 9, who were among dozens attending an event called “Pokemon Day Dance Party” at the Siam Paragon shopping mall to celebrate Thailand’s Children’s Day.
The accident appeared to have been caused by strong winds, according to Lt. General Sanit Mahathaworn, the city’s acting police chief.
He said that strong winds made the tent fly up about one metre and then wooden signs attached to the back of the tent flew off and injured nearby people.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital and all but two had been released by the afternoon of January 9.
Sanit said police would accuse the owners of the company that installed the tent of criminal negligence. They could face up to three years in prison and a fine of 6,000 THB (165 USD).-VNA
