Thai police guard a bombing site in Hua Hin (Photo: AFP/VNA)Bangkok (VNA) – Two more bombs exploded in the Thai seaside resort of Hua Hin, 200 kilometres south of Bangkok, on early August 12, claiming a life and injuring three others, Thai police said.
Earlier, one person was killed and about 20 others, including nine foreigners, were injured by two explosions at the Hua Hin resort on late August 11.
Local authorities said that the bombs hidden in plant pots went off at a clock tower, and that it was possible they were relating to the first blasts because bombs planted on a crowded street were also hidden in plant pots and detonated by mobile phones.
According to local hospitals, German, Italian, Dutch and Austrian nationals were among the wounded.
Within 24 hours, four people were reported killed in eight bombings across the country, including four in Hua Hin.
Two blasts struck the popular tourist town of Phukhet while two more bombs were reported in the southern provinces of Trang and Surat Thani, in each of which one person was killed.
Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha on August 12 condemned the bomb attacks in the country. He called for calm among the public and said that the bombs were an attempt to create chaos and confusion.
The blasts came on the eve of Queen Sirikit's 84th birthday and just ahead of the first anniversary of the Bangkok shrine bombing that killed 20.
Investigations into the bombings are underway.-VNA
