According to a ThaiArmed Forces spokesperson, the explosion happened in the province’sKrong Pinang district when 10 soldiers were on patrol near their camp inthe locality.
The bomb, which was buried in the road, also destroyed the truck carrying the soldiers.
No organisation has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing, whichwas believed to be a popular form of attacks on security staff launchedby militant insurgents in the region.
Since violenceerupted in 2004, more than 5,500 people have been killed in thesouthern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.
Earlier this year, the Thai Government held its first peace talks withrepresentatives of Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), one of the majorinsurgent groups in southern Thailand. However, no agreement wasreached and the violence has yet been stopped.-VNA
