Thailand assumes Chairmanship of ASEAN Conference on Civil Service Matters

Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announcedthat General Secretary of Thailand’s Office of the Civil Service CommissionMethini Thepmani will serve as the Chairperson of the 20th ASEAN Corporation onCivil Service Matters (ACCSM) for the 2019-2020 period.

For thetenure, Thailand has proposed the theme of “Accelerating an Agile ASEAN CivilService”, which is also in line with the overall theme of the ASEAN Summit.

Methiniexpressed her belief that the achievements gained during the period will helpboost agility in the civil service throughout the Association of SoutheastAsian Nations (ASEAN).

Thailandwill continue to advance its current achievements, while also proposing variousdecisions under its leadership, including devising an ACCSM Workplan for 2021-2025in order to respond to the emerging challenges shared by civil services in theregion.

She addedthat in March 2019, the Senior Officials Meeting will take place in Chiang Rai,with other related meetings to be held in Bangkok in August.

During its2017-2018 tenure, Singapore chose the theme “Building Citizen-Centric CivilService in ASEAN” for the 19th ACCSM, with the aim to expand the scope ofcooperation between ACCSM and ASEAN dialogue to partners beyond the ASEAN plusthree, including to specialised organisations. –VNA
