TheThai government has been trying to decrease the death toll from roadaccidents to under 10 from a population of 100,000, a PBS TV bulletinquoted Minister Anupong Paochinda, acting executive director of the RoadSafety Directing Centre, as saying.
Thailand saw about44,000 fatalities from road accidents each year while many more wereinjured or maimed. The campaign to reduce road accidents this year willfocus on traffic management, safe driving, and accident response with aview to making drivers more aware of the damage and pain caused by roadaccidents.
Thailand is among nations recording highest roadtraffic deaths worldwide, with 38.1 road fatalities per 100,000 peopleper year, and 118.8 deaths per 100,000 motor vehicles.-VNA
