The Thai Department of Tourism has launched the Thailand International Film Destination Festival 2017 (TIFDF2017), with the aim of promoting Thailand as the World's Best Film Location.

Bangkok (VNA/NNT) - The Thai Department of Tourism has launched the ThailandInternational Film Destination Festival 2017 (TIFDF2017), with the aim ofpromoting Thailand as the World's Best Film Location.

The TIFDT2017, themed “a fascinating destination”, focuses on promoting the eighttourism clusters in Thailand among international filmmakers through a series ofactivities, such as a short-film competition among film students around theworld.

Thai Tourismand Sports Minister MrsKobkarnWattanavrangkul said this week that theinternational film industry is directly linked to Thailand’s tourism. The filmindustry not only brings in a large amount of money to the country, but alsohelps promote its beautiful destinations internationally.

She added that this year, the Tourism Ministry is working in line with thegovernment’s policy to support local tourism. The ministry is promoting theeight tourism clusters of tourism development for 2015-2017 to make Thailocations very well-known internationally.

In 2016,more than 700 foreign films were shot in Thailand, generating 2.3 billion THB. Thefigure in the first five months of this year (Jan-May) was 369 films and videos,creating 1.4 billion THB, an increase in both number and revenue compared tothe same period last year.

TIFDF hasbeen held annually since 2013 to attract those in the film industry to shootfilms in Thailand.

Thailand is a dream destination for many travelers who have come to know thecountry through films, such as the James Bond epic which was shot in KohTapu,PhangNga.-VNA
