Chairman of the Thai Rice Exporters’ Association CharoenLaothamatas said the stronger baht makes the price of Thai rice unattractivelyhigh compared with the prices of competitors such as Vietnam.
The association also warned that Thailand could lose Africamarket because it bought stockpiled rice in mass from the Thai government, butthe supply has run out while new crops are expensive, making it hard forconsumption here.
Thailand’s baht stood at 31.35 per USD, a record sinceNovember 2013. In January 2018, it rose nearly 4 percent after a 9 percentincrease in 2017.-VNA
