Provinces across Thailand have stepped their security and safety measures for the upcoming Loy Kratong festival.

Inthe lower northern province of Sukhothai, 330 police officers, armyofficers, and volunteers were sent out to patrol streets to suppresscriminal activities and any forms of drug trafficking before local andforeign tourists join in to celebrate the festival.

Around fourhundred officials and volunteers were also deployed in the centralprovince of Lopburi before Loy Krathong to assure visitors would be safeand to prevent any hazards that may occur from firecrackers andfloating lanterns.

Other provinces across the country are alsochecking up their areas to accommodate tourists for the upcoming event,which will be held on November 6-7 in many places nationwide.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
