Thai gov’t supports career for aging population

The Thai government is encouraging the elderly who are still strong to work to supplement their living expenses.

Accordingto Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yuthawong, the government is placingimportance on the elderly as the aging population is growing.

Inorder to improve the livelihood of the elderly, Cho Heng RiceVermicelli Factory Co., Ltd. has allowed and recruited people over theirretirement age of 60 to continue to work.

It has also set anexample for other manufacturers to follow suit. Many of these workershave years of experience under their belts and are skillful in theirline of work.

The Foundation of Thai Gerontology Research andDevelopment Institute’s Acting Secretary General Dr. Ladda Damrikarnlertsaid recruitment of older workforce is beneficial to both the elderlyand the manufacturers. It will improve the mental well-being of theelderly and supplement their income.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
