Hanoi (VNA) – A Thai company has recently visited the MekongDelta province of Soc Trang to seek investment opportunities, especially inthermo-power plants.

At a working session with leaders of the provincial PartyCommittee, a representative from the Banpu Power Public Company briefed them onthe company’s financial capacity and experience in thermo-power development.

The company has invested in major electricity projects inThailand and Laos, and been hailed by Thai and foreign organisations forefforts to develop business and production in line with environmentalprotection.

After studying the Long Phu 3 Thermo-Power Plant Project,the representative affirmed that the company has sufficient capacity to investin project.

However, there remain challenges related to coaltransportation via waterways. Therefore, the company made several proposals toaddress the problem.

Phan Van Sau, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee,said that the locality absolutely supports the Thai company’s investmentintention.

He expressed his hope that the investment should associatewith environmental protection to avoid affecting the life of locals.

Regarding difficulties in coal transportation, Soc Trang iscalling for investment in a deepwater port in Tran De to facilitate import andexport activities, he added.-VNA
