Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand’s export of fresh, chilled, frozen, anddried fruit and vegetables in the first two months this year has grown from2018 at 46.85 percent, expected to reach annual growth of 30-40 percent worth 4billion USD.
The Ministry of Commerce is proceeding with international marketing plans toaccommodate expected growth of supply hitting the market, especially from Aprilto June.
The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) Director GeneralBanjongjitt Angsusingh revealed the ongoing trade war between China and theUnited States has contributed positively and negatively with Thailand’s fruitexport industry, as the department is expecting more Thai fruit products willbe able to be exported to China replacing the those previously shipped from theUS. However Thai fruit products will be facing more competition from productsfrom both China and the US in other markets.
The department is aimed to cope with this challenge by promoting keycharacteristics and values of Thai fruit products among consumers, ensuringproduct quality, and creating brands to improve the competitiveness.
The DITP is aimed to focus more on online product sales on www.thaitrade.com,and Alibaba’s TMall website throughout this year. There are currently 9 Thaifruit products selected for sale on these platforms, namely durian, mangosteen,lamyai, mango, coconut, jackfruit, rose apple, pineapple, and longan. It isexpected sales value on these platforms will exceed 130 million US dollar.
For offline channels, the department will be working with importers, shoppingmalls, supermarkets, Thai restaurants, and trade partners in targeted marketsto further promote the awareness and popularity Thai products in foreigncountries.-NNT/VNA
