Earlier, the provincial Department of NaturalResources and Environment had probed sand mining in Dau Tieng and uncoveredmany irregularities like the lack of business licences and their illegaltransfer, overloaded vehicles, the use of heavy trucks that could jeopardisereservoir safety.
The authorities aim to streamline sand miningand haul up violators before allowing the activity to resume.
A task force has been established and taskedwith checking the activities of all 11 companies allowed to exploit naturalresources in the reservoir.
The province transport department also set upa task force to check waterway activities related to sand mining in Dau Tieng.
The investigation is expected to wrap up in 10days with the task force checking sand and land exploitation, environment andshipping construction licences, sales invoices, financial contributions, andwaterway activities.
In recent times the prices of sand used forconstruction have shot up from 300,000 VND (13 USD) per cubic metre to 450,000VND (20 USD).
The 11 businesses are allowed to mine 350,000cubic metres of sand a year.-VNA
