Hanoi police one July 3 temporarily detained two men from Chinese Taiwanfor allegedly using the Internet and telecommunication networks toappropriate property.
On June 30, a team from themunicipal crime prevention department caught Chang Khai Yeu, 27, andHsieh Ming Hsin, 31, using cards of other people to withdraw money at anautomated teller machine (ATM) in Nguyen Thi Dinh street , Cau Giaydistrict.
After checking, the police discovered and seized 54 ATM cards issued by Vietnamese banks and nearly 283 million VND.
Preliminary investigations showed that the men had shook hands withsome Vietnamese to call targeted people for paying phone charges or poseas policemen to illegally get money from them.
Theyused software counterfeiting the police’s telephone number to defraudthe victims. At least 7 billion VND (330,000 USD) have been reportedlystolen.
