Summer youth volunteer campaign returns in June

This year’s summer youth volunteer campaign will take place across the country from June 1 to August 31 for the youth to join hands in building new-style rural and civilized urban areas.

Hanoi (VNA) –This year’s summer youth volunteer campaign will take place in difficult andremote areas across the country from June 1 to August 31 for the youth to joinhands in building new-style rural and civilized urban areas.

The campaign is organisedby the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) Central Committee on severalislands, including Tran and Co To islands (Quang Ninh), Bach Long Vi (HaiPhong), Ly Son (Quang Ngai), Cu Lao Cham (Quang Nam), Phu Quy (Binh Thuan) andTho Chu (Kien Giang); and 64 poor districts, according to Permanent Secretaryof the HCMCYU Central Committee Nguyen Manh Dung.

The campaign will belaunched in a ceremony in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on May 28.

The youngster andYouth Union members will help repair and build 550 bridges, 500 kilometres ofrural roads, irrigation facilities, and children’s playgrounds; and developgreener, cleaner and safer streets and alleys in cities and urban areas.

Each city orprovince’s youth union will construct at least 1 kilometre of rural roads andthree charitable houses for policy beneficiaries and people who renderedservices to the nation.

The campaign willprovide about 60,000 young people with education on advanced technology andgive free medical checkups and medicine to about half million people.

A series of events forbenefits of the community will also be held as part of the campaign, such asoffering consultation and support to national high school graduation examineesand their families, especially those living in difficult circumstances or withdisabilities.

The campaign isexpected to provide an opportunity to strengthen solidarity among the youth andyouth union members and heighten the role of the youth union in thesociety.-VNA
