The Vietnam Education Publishing House has announced that textbooks for the new 2015-2016 academic year are now ready to meet the demands of students nationwide.
So far, the house has published 96.4 million textbooks together with more than 100 million reference books of all kinds, as well as maps and photo books serving students, teachers and the society as a whole.
It also attributed shortages of some textbooks in several localities in the last few months to decreases in textbook purchases by major bookstores and localities to prevent overstocked inventories.
The house affirmed that it will speed up the distribution of books to ensure all students are supplied before the new school year starts.
Annually, June and August are the house’s peak publishing months as the new academic year normally begins in early September. Direct supplies to schools are also prioritised to minimise distribution through bookstores and dealers.
An 8-10 percent discount will be applied nationwide depending on the specific conditions of each locality.
Meanwhile, books for students and teachers in schools applying new education models will arrive for readers in primary schools on August 28 at the latest and to secondary schools on August 31.
Inspection teams have been formed with the involvements of authorised forces and localities to fight unlicensed books and illegal publishing of educational books.
At the same time, the Vietnam Education Publishing House also advises students and parents to buy textbooks in licensed bookstores as well as the house’s distribution agencies nationwide.-VNA
