Hanoi (VNA) – Storm Sanba, which landed in the Philippines on February13, killed nine people and forced 21,000 others to evacuate due to floods, localauthorities reported on February 14.
Accordingto the local civil defence office, landslides and flash floods brought by thestorm struck the main southern island of Mindanao on February 13 and killedeight people and left two missing.
A baby also died on the centralisland of Leyte after a house was buried by an avalanche.
Sanba was bearing down on thecountry's western island of Palawan on February 14 afternoon. But it had weakenedafter crossing the Sulu Sea.
After weakening to a low pressureon February 14, the storm will enter the southeast of the East Sea,about310km east of the central province of Khanh Hoa’s coast, packing winds of upto 60km per hour.
It isforecast to move westwards with about 15km per hour and continue to weaken.-VNA
