HCM City (VNA) – More than 300 young people from ASEAN countries and Japan aboard the Ship for Southeast Asian Young Programme will arrive in Ho Chi Minh City on November 17 as part of their 40-day trip to explore the participating countries.

Following a welcome ceremony, the delegates will pay a courtesy visit to municipal leaders and engage in an exchange with their local peers, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Chapter in HCM City revealed at a press briefing on November 11.

During their five-day stay in HCM City, they will visit historical relic sites and have a chance to live with local families to better understand Vietnamese people’s lifestyle and culture.

The young delegates will then leave HCM City for Yangon, Myanmar.

The ship started its tour on November 5 from Japan. Apart from Vietnam and Myanmar, it will dock in the Philippines, Laos and Malaysia, and then return to Japan for the final ceremonies.

Launched in 1974 based on a statement issued in the same year by Japan and Southeast Asian countries, the programme aims to promote friendship and mutual understanding among the participating nations, broaden their perspective on the world, and to strengthen their spirit of international cooperation.
