Bangkok (VNA) – Southeast Asian nations are beefingup measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 amid complicated developments of thedisease in many countries around the world.
Security at border crossings in 10 provinces of Thailand has been tightenedafter three Myanmar nationals who come to Thailand through Mae Sot district ofTak province tested positive for the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19.
According to the Centre for COVID-19 SituationAdministration (CCSA) of Thailand, border provinces would be tightened, including Kanchanaburi, Chumphon, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Tak, Prachuap KhiriKhan, Phetchaburi, Mae Hong Son, Ranong and Ratchaburi.
Thailand recorded fivemore COVID-19 cases on October 12, lifting its total to 3,641, including 59deaths.
ThePhilippines has so far reported 342,816 COVID-19 patients and 6,332 fatalities after3,564 new inspections and 11 deaths were announced on the same day.
In Malaysia, travel restrictions in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor state will be placedfrom October 14-27 to contain the spread of the disease.
Restriction measures are also scheduled to be expanded to Sabah, MalaysianDefence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Meanwhile, large scale social restrictions (PSBB) will be loosen in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, over two weeks startingon October 12 as COVID-19 cases have decreased gradually since there-imposition of PSBB on September 14.
Indonesia has so far confirmed 336,716 COVID-19 infections and 11,935 deaths. The respective figures in Jakarta were 87,006 and 1,901.
Singapore's Ministry of Health said on October 12 that the country recorded four new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in thecountry to 57,880. This is the lowest of new infections per day over the past sevenmonths in Singapore since March 4./.
