Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam spoke highly ofcooperation and assistance of the SOS Children's Villages International forVietnam in raising, caring for, and educating children with underprivileged backgroundswhile receiving its President Siddhartha Kaul in Hanoi on January 9.

Vietnamalways attaches importance to its relations with the SOS Children’s VillagesInternational, while backing operations of the SOS Children’s Villages Vietnam,Dam said.

Onthe occasion of the 30th founding anniversary of the SOS Children’sVillages Vietnam, he thanked the SOS Children’s Villages International anddonors worldwide for their contributions to the organisation’s development.

TheDeputy PM stressed the need for new approaches in coordination between the twosides in upcoming projects.

Healso asked the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to map out aschedule to increase Vietnam’s proportion in these projects through mobilisingresources from donors and enterprises and including them in existing child careand support programmes.

SiddharthaKaul stated that the ceremony to mark the 30th founding anniversaryof SOS Children’s Villages Vietnam and receive first-class Labour Orderacknowledged the contributions made by the SOS Children's VillagesInternational and its Vietnam chapter for the care of disadvantaged children inthe country.

SOSChildren’s Villages International has provided Vietnam with nearly 120 millionUSD to develop infrastructure in SOS villages in the past 30 years.

Among 6,000 children nursed in 17 villages across the country, 2,800 have grownup and landed stable jobs and some 3,100 others are being brought up in SOSvillages.-VNA
