SonLa (VNA) – The cooperation between the Son La province border guardforce, the Vietnam Border Guard High Command’s anti-drug department andcompetent agencies of the Lao Houaphan and Luang Prabang provinces hassuccessfully put an end to several major drugs cases in contribution to curbingthe crime along the Vietnam – Laos borderline.
It was heard at a conference held in the northern mountainous province of SonLa on April 25 to review a decade of implementing the local SH 09 plan oncooperation with northern Lao provinces in combating drugs smuggling.
Thesides have jointly busted 3,320 drug trafficking cases, arresting 4,664suspects and seizing more than 874 kg of heroin, 56 million synthetic drugpills, and 300 kg of opium.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quy Vuongrecommended such collaboration should be maintained in the coming time.
Hesuggested police in Son La and northern Lao provinces should increase theirconsultation and implement their precautionary plans to control drug issue,ensuring security and social orders in their localities.
Onthe occasion, Son La authorities presented 24 certificates of merit to the policeforce in northern Lao provinces and 21 others to local police. Leaders ofnorthern Lao provinces’ police forces also handed over certificates of merit to24 teams and individuals in Son La.-VNA
