Hanoi (VNA) – Soft power plays an important role in promoting Vietnam-India relations and ties between India and ASEAN member nations in the context of regionalisation and globalisation , heard a seminar in Hanoi on December 19.

As part of celebrations for the 45th founding anniversary of Vietnam-India diplomatic ties, the event aimed to review cooperation results between the two countries, thus devising new plans for future ties.

Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, in his opening speech, highlighted the close relationship between Vietnam and India, and praised support provided by the India Government during Vietnam’s struggles for national independence and in the 30-year renewal (Doi moi) process.

Vietnam and India have similarities of culture, and share common values of humanity, community and solidarity, Thang noted, stressing the importance of soft power - a combination of such factors as politics, diplomacy, economy, culture, technology, psychology, and population quality in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting development in each country.

Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish emphasised the impact of Vietnam-India relations on the formation of national policies in each country, saying that cooperation between the two nations has contributed to maintaining peace and stability in the region and world.

During the seminar, Vietnamese and Indian scientists analysed factors that create soft power and explored how soft power was used in the two countries in different periods.

They recommended India, Vietnam and other ASEAN members make deeper research and build policies to effectively use soft power, thus contributing to ensuring security, stability and development in the region.-VNA
