Soc Trang province attracts clean energy investors

Soc Trang (VNA) – A lot of investors operating in the fields of windpower, solar power and agriculture have recently come to the Mekong Deltaprovince of Soc Trang to seek investment opportunities.

Earlier, the Ministry of Industryand Trade approved 22 locations with potential for wind power development inthe province.

These locations cover a totalarea of 35,740 hectares with plants holding a combined designed capacity of1,470MW.

To date, 19 investors have madefact-finding tours and mapped out projects at the planned locations. Amongthose, two have completed procedures and were granted with investmentdecisions.

Chairman of the provincialPeople’s Committee Tran Van Chuyen said that the province always createsfavourable conditions for enterprises and will choose the most competentinvestors to promote the efficiency of the projects.

The province is speeding up thedrafting of a master plan on wind power, he added.

An investment promotionconference in Soc Trang will be organised in May, during which the provincewill grant investment decisions, investment licences, and memoranda ofunderstanding on investment cooperation to 47 projects, with a total investmentof nearly 123 trillion VND (5.4 billion USD).-VNA
