The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and the Vietnam-Slovakia Friendship Association held a joint ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on September 5 to mark Slovakia’s 23rd Constitution Day (September 1).
Speaking at the event, President of the Vietnam-Slovakia Friendship Association in HCM City Bui Quang Hai said that Czechoslovakia in the past and Slovakia at present have helped train tens of thousands of Vietnamese scientists in economics and technical fields, especially in mechanics and the light industry.
As of late, the two countries have organised a number of high-ranking delegation exchanges and signed cooperation documents to facilitate the development of their long-term cooperation.
Ho Huy, Slovakia’s Honorary Consul in Ho Chi Minh City, said that Slovakia will work with Vietnam to maintain and develop bilateral relations in economics, politics and socio-culture.
According to him, Slovakia is Vietnam’s second largest trade partner in Central and Eastern Europe with trade reaching 400 million USD last year.
Slovak investors are also eyeing Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam’s biggest economic hub – with the first project worth 100 million USD.
The pending establishment of the twin relationship between the city and the Slovak capital city of Bratislava will also accelerate trade exchanges towards meeting their potential, Huy said.-VNA
