Singapore (VNA) – The President of Singapore Tony Tan Keng Yam began his first official visit to Norway, at the invitation of King Harald V on October 9.
During the six-day visit, Singapore and Norway are expected to sign 12 agreements and memorandums of understanding. The visit also aims to boost cooperation in economy, marine navigation, education, research and development of the two countries.
In Norway, President Tony Tan Keng Yam will attend meetings with Norway’s President of Parliament Olemic Thommessen, Prime Minister Erna Solberg and a reception hosted by King Harald V. He will also participate in the Singapore – Norway Business Forum and a research and business workshop.
Singapore and Norway set up diplomatic ties in 1969. Two-way trade between the two countries reached 2.4 billion USD in 2015. Currently, about 400 Norwegian companies are operating in Singapore.-VNA
