Sourcesfrom Singapore’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs said thatSingapore-Vietnam bilateral relations will be elevated to a StrategicPartnership this September during Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s visitto Vietnam .
The Singaporean President, inhis letter of congratulations to his Vietnamese counterpart on theoccasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the twocountries’ diplomatic relations on August 1, said the bilateral tieshave taken great leaps forward in the past four decades with Singaporebeing one of Vietnam's largest investor and people-to-people links beingrobust.
In his letter to his Vietnamesecounterpart Nguyen Tan Dung, Singapore ’s Prime Minister Lee HsienLoong said the Strategic Partnership will pave the way for even strongerrelations in the future.
He added that thefour successful Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks reflect bothcountries’ excellent economic ties and he looks forward to opening thefifth such park during his visit to Vietnam this September.
Singapore’s Foreign Minister K Shanmugam also senta congratulatory letter to his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh,saying Singapore and Vietnam work closely at various regional andinternational fora, including ASEAN.
He said,both countries share many common interests, including the importance ofstrengthening ASEAN to maintain regional peace and stability, and theyare working more closely than ever in a wide range of areas such asdefence, education, and arts and culture.
The Singaporeanchief diplomat reaffirmed that economic cooperation between the twocountries will continue to grow, buttressed by the Singapore-VietnamConnectivity Framework Agreement.-VNA
