Singapore (VNA) – Singapore will ban advertisements of certainfizzy drinks and juices as part of efforts to curb consumption of sugar in thecity state, which has some of the world’s highest diabetes rates.
Under the measures, further details of which will be released next year, high-sugardrinks will also be required to bear health warnings on labels.
Such drinks as well as medium-to-high sugar content drinks must also carry alabel on the front of the pack to signal that it is unhealthy, according toSenior Minister of State for Health Edwin Tong.
The ban will be applied across all local mass media platforms, includingbroadcast, print, outdoor advertising and online channels such as social mediawebsites.
Singapore has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world, partly causedby its fast-ageing population and a culture of eating out at inexpensive hawkercentres./.
