Singapore (VNA) – Singapore is striving to address its energy shortages by acceleratingprojects using solar energy.
SingaporeanMinister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing said on June 5 that the countrywill expand areas for installation of solar energy devices.
Besides, Singaporeis also studying a project to turn buildings’ surface into systems generatingelectricity from solar energy.
The SoutheastAsian country is currently home to seven power plants. However, all of themdepend on imported natural gas to generate electricity.
In addition, theexpansion of reservoirs and use of technology to turn sea water into drinkingwater are said to worsen the country’s energy crisis in the future.
Over the past 50years, Singapore has spent two third of its area to create reservoirs to keeprain water in a bid to overcome water shortages.-VNA
