Codenamed Exercise BlueDolphin 2014, the one-day exercise simulated a fire breaking out on apassenger cruise ship heading to Singapore to test the readiness andresponsiveness of port authorities and other agencies during a massevacuation scenario.
Agencies involved included ferry operatorsStar Cruises and Sindo Ferry, government agencies such as the Ministryof Health (MOH), Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Singapore CivilDefence Force (SCDF) as well as Red Cross Singapore.
TheMarina South Pier also became a temporary medical base where medicalpersonnel from the MOH, SCDF and SAF simulated receiving injuredpassengers.
MPA Chief Executive Andrew Tan said the drill is meant to convey a message about the culture of safety.-VNA
