Singapore (VNA) – Singaporean Health MinisterGan Kim Yong on March 21 confirmed two persons diedfrom the acute respiratory disease caused by thenovel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) in the country due to complications.
A 75-year-old Singaporean woman with a history of chronic heart disease andhypertension died at 7.52am.
She had been admitted to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) onFebruary 23 for pneumonia and was confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 on the same day.
The patient had been in the intensive care unit (ICU) and developed seriouscomplications. She died after 26 days in ICU.
The second death case is a 64-year-old Indonesian national who was admitted in criticalcondition to intensive care at NCID on March 13, after arriving in Singaporefrom Indonesia on the same day. He tested positive for the virus in the nextday.
Previously, the man had been hospitalised in Indonesia for pneumonia and had ahistory of heart disease.
The Singaporean Ministry of Health and the NCID have provided necessary supportfor the patients’ relatives.
Minister Gan has called on the people to strictly implement countermeasuresrecommended by the Government to effectively prevent the spread of the disease./.
