The World Cities Summit 2014 provides a platform for government,business and international organisations to share insights and solutionsand discuss measures to address liveable and sustainable citychallenges as well as forge high-level partnerships.
On June 1, the mayors and city leaders discussed the importance ofgood governance and community engagement, and how smart technologiescould contribute to urban development. They also agreed that it is mostimportant to engage their community and put people at the centre ofpolicy goals.
The participating delegates alsopledged their support for the United Nations Open Working Group'sSustainable Development Goal, which focus the attention and resources ofnational agencies, local governments, the private sector and civilsociety towards managing urban challenges and creating more liveable andsustainable cities.
This year, the Lee KuanYew World City Prize was awarded to Suzhou city of China for itsremarkable transformation, especially during the past two decades.
Next year’s World Cities Summit will be held in New York City, USA.-VNA
