Singapore (VNA) – Singaporean Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen and his Australian counterpart Linda Reynolds havereaffirmed long-lasting and close defence ties within the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership duringtheir meeting in Singapore on October 20.
They welcomed the steady progress made in the joint development of training areas and advanced training facilities in Queenslandstate, Australia.
According to the Singaporean Ministry of Defence, the two sides also reaffirmed the value of key securityplatforms such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus in addressingsecurity challenges, and agreed to continue the strong cooperation via theseplatforms.
They discussed regional and international securitydevelopments, including the importance of enhancing regional counter-terrorismcooperation.
The one-day visit to Singapore by Australian DefenceMinister Linda Reynolds is a key milestone in the lead-up to the commemorationof the 30th anniversary of the Singapore Armed Forces' training in theShoalwater Bay Training Area in Queensland, Australia. This is scheduled to take place later this year.
Minister Reynolds called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and is scheduled tomeet Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat./.
