Singapore (VNA) – Singapore on March 13 announced that army chief Major GeneralMelvyn Ong will take over as Chief of Defence Force and replaceLieutenant-General Perry Lim, who will be transferred to a new position.
Besides, BrigadierGeneral S H Gou, commander of the 6th division, will take over Melvyn Ong’splace as Chief of the Singapore Army.
Maj-GenMelvyn Ong, 43, joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in 1994. He wasappointed to various significant positions in different units of SAF.
InFebruary 2011, he was assigned as commander of the Singapore contingent deployedto provide humanitarian aid in New Zealand after a quake hit the country’sChristchurch city.-VNA
