Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam expects tohave a sex rate at birth of 112.8 boys per 100girls and an average population of 94.7 million in 2018, heard a conferenceheld by the General Office for Population - Family Planning in Hanoi onJanuary 30.
The office also aimed to maintain stability of replacement fertility andimprove the quality of population and health care for the elderly.
The population growth rate is hoped to expand only 1 percent, while the rate ofmodern contraception use is expected to be 67.4 percent.
Forty percent of pregnant women are set to receive prenatal screening. The officealso hoped to expand health insurance coverage to 100 percent ofthe elderly in the year.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien praised the populationsector for its efforts in recent years.
He asked the office to continue implementing the Government’s resolutions on population.
Vietnam’s population reached 93.7 million last year, up 1.07 percent against2016. The sex rate at birth stood at112.4 boys/100 girls.
More than 912,000 elders got regular medical examinations and 92.8 percent ofelderly people had health insurance.-VNA
