Seminar to mark 40 years of victory over genocidal regime

A national scientific seminar marking the 40th anniversary of victory in the southwestern border defence war and the joint victory of Vietnam and Cambodia over the genocidal regime (January 7, 1979-2019) will take place in the southern province of An Giang on December 28.

Hanoi (VNA) – A national scientific seminarmarking the 40th anniversary of victory in the southwestern border defencewar and the joint victory of Vietnam and Cambodia over the genocidal regime(January 7, 1979-2019) will take place in the southern province of An Giang on December28.

It was announced during a press conference in Hanoi onDecember 21 which was co-held by the Department of Information and Educationunder the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, theDefence Ministry’s Vietnam Institute of Military History, and thePopularisation Department under the Party Central Committee’s Information andEducation Commission.

The seminar will attract 350 delegates, including Party,State, Defence Ministry leaders, historical witnesses, former generals andcommanders, and researchers in and outside the army.

It aims to reiterate the sound leadership of the Vietnamese Party and State,their determination to defeat all invaders to protect the nation’s territorialintegrity and sacred sovereignty, as well as their consistent policy of helpingthe Cambodian people overthrow the genocidal regime.

They are due to make clear army building, close and effectivejoint work between the Vietnam People’s Army and Cambodian people to bring inthe January 7, 1979 victory, opening a new era for peace, national independenceand social progress in both nations.

Deputy head of the institute Col. Truong Mai Huong said theevent will feature three sessions, including reports retracing national defencewar in the southwestern border from 1975-1979, the Vietnamese military arts,the role and historical significance of the victory to Vietnamese, Cambodianand world people.

The event will provide fairly comprehensive materials aboutthe war process, he added.-VNA
