Seminar promotes organic farming

Farmers and retailers are encouraged to adopt the Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) guidelines in efforts to promote organic farming and consumption of organic produce in Vietnam, said a seminar.

The seminar on the development of PGS, the fourth of its kind, was heldin Hanoi on November 10 by the Vietnam Farmers’ Association incollaboration with the Agricultural Development Denmark Asia (ADDA)organisation.

ADDA experts introduced participants, including organic farmers,representatives of markets, shops, businesses, and goods distributors,to the benefits they can receive from participating in PGS.

In Vietnam, 141 farmers in nine provinces and cities have participatedin the PGS development project that aims to produce purely organicproducts, ranging from vegetables to fruit and rice, for the market aspart of endeavours to ensure food hygiene for consumers./.
