“Hanoi capital: tradition, resources and development orientations” was the theme of a scientific seminar held in the capital city on August 17 ahead of the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).

Ten reports at the event gave insight into Hanoi’s development experience over the past 70 years, pointing to its cultural resources and civilisation values that brought about the bloodless and rapid victory of the August Revolution general uprising.

Professor Pham Hong Tung from the Vietnam National University – Hanoi’s Institute of Vietnamese Studies and Development Sciences said the whole victory of the August Revolution was the result of the great national unity on the back of worker-peasant alliances under the Party leadership.

Apart from traditional values, reports also mentioned socio-economic and human resources for the Hanoi development cause.

With its geographical expansions that facilitate connectivity with localities and regions, Hanoi is well-positioned to continue building itself into a political, cultural, scientific-technological and economic hub of the country, said Associate Professor Bui Tat Thang from the Development Strategy Institute.

Participants also elaborated on development orientations for the capital, including a master plan to 2020, new rural development in tandem with urbanisation in outlying areas, and organisation and management models.

Dao Ngoc Nghiem, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, said several points should be taken into account when it comes to planning, including increased urban management and administrative reform, among others.

The event was co-hosted by the municipal Party Committee, People’s Council and People’s Committee.

The same day, an exhibit of the 1945 August general uprising opened in Hanoi in celebration for the occasion, displaying 300 photos and materials for public view.-VNA
