Seminar highlights Vietnam-India ties, relevance of Ho Chi Minh

A seminar was held in Kolkata, India, on November 24, highlighting the growing relations between Vietnam and India, and new challenges as well as the relevance of President Ho Chi Minh.

New Delhi (VNA) – A seminar was held in Kolkata,India, on November 24, highlighting the growing relations between Vietnam andIndia, and new challenges as well as the relevance of President Ho Chi Minh.

The event drew the attendance of Vietnamese Ambassador toIndia Pham Sanh Chau, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam–India Friendship Association HaMinh Hue, and President of the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee of West BengalGeetesh Sharma, along with scholars and researchers from both countries.

Participants agreed that Vietnam and India have enjoyedsound relations and high political trust that has been reinforced through the regularexchange of delegations of the Party, State, Government and parliament.

The ties has been built on a firm foundation of history,culture and mutual understanding, as well as support offered during strugglesfor independence, freedom, unification, territorial integrity and nationalconstruction and defence in each country, they noted.

They also discussed the similarities in the leadership ofIndia’s Mahatma Gandhi and President Ho Chi Minh during their struggles fornational liberation.

Dr. Nguyen Tran Tien, a lecturer from the Hanoi Universityof Social Sciences and Humanities, said that Gandhi’s thoughts of justice,peace and non-violence have inspired many countries, including Vietnam, with arevolution led by President Ho Chi Minh.

Gandhi and Ho Chi Minh’s leadership and messages of freedomand humanity helped the two nations regain their freedom, he said, holding thatthe two leaders agreed on the same ideology of liberating their people fromsuppression and exploitation.

On the sidelines of the seminar, an exhibition was organisedto introduce 40 photos featuring President Ho Chi Minh’s visits to India aswell as his famous quotes.

A book entitled “Ho Chi Minh with India” was introducedwithin the framework of the seminar. The book, compiled by the Centre for IndiaStudies of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in Vietnamese and Hindi,includes writing, letters, messages and poems about India by President Ho ChiMinh, as well as his memories of India and writings by Vietnamese and Indianscholars about the late leader and Vietnam-India relations./.
