Seminar discusses ways to promote gender equality

A seminar on accelerating the implementation of the National Strategy on Gender Equality during the 2011-2020 period took place in Hanoi on Sept. 29.
A seminar on accelerating the implementation of the National Strategy onGender Equality during the 2011-2020 period took place in Hanoi onSept. 29.

The event was jointly held by theVietnamese Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA),the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and the UNWOMEN, an organisation of the United Nations dedicated to genderequality and the empowerment of women.

Opening theseminar, MoLISA Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hoa said gender equality isan important goal in promoting women’s social role and limitations inthis field are one of the barriers hindering sustainable development andsocial equality.

She called on the entire societyto reach consensus and make strong commitment to realising the strategyin the coming time.

VGCL Vice President Nguyen HoaBinh stressed that there should be specific suitable solutions to eachlocality and unit while implementing policies on gender equality indaily life.

Delegates at the seminar agreed on theneed to continue improving policies on gender equality and enhancingstate managerial capacity in this field, pay more attention toinformation dissemination and education, mobilise and use effectivelycapital for gender equality.

The national strategyspecifies indicators and measures to promote women’s participation inmanagerial and leadership posts, narrow the gender gap in areas such aspolitics, economics, education and training, health care and culturesectors with special attention paid to women in rural and ethnicregions./.

The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on October 21 signed a cooperation agreement with Uiseong county, Gyeongsangbuk-do province of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on sending local labourers to the RoK to work seasonally under the form of locality-to-locality collaboration between the two countries in the 2023 - 2027 period.

Tien Giang strives to reduce poverty rate to 0.87% this year
