Hanoi (VNA) – Four civil defense volunteers were shot dead by insurgents at a school in southern Thailand on January 10, according to police.
The victims, in their 30s, were guarding the school in Pattani province whenthe gun attack occurred.
Disguised as rangersvisiting the school, the attackers in military uniforms opened fire at the fourpeople, police said.
The attack happened when classes were in session and no teachers or studentswere hurt.
Police have set up checkpoints across the area to intercept the perpetrators.
This is the second attack happened in Pattani during the past week.
Two days ago, a12-year-old girl was injured by a bomb on her way to school, not far from the aboveattack.
Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat in southern Thailand are prone to gun attacks and bombingsby separatist insurgents. More than 7,000 people have been killed since2004.-VNA
