Hanoi (VNA) - Members of the VietnamAssociation of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) sold more than 3.2 millionmotorcycles in 2017, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.8 percent.
The association, including five members ofPiaggio Vietnam, Suzuki Vietnam, SYM Vietnam, Yamaha Motor Vietnam and HondaVietnam, provides the Vietnamese market with a wide range of products such asscooters and sport motorcycles.
According to reports, Honda Vietnam occupies thelargest market share of more than 60 percent. It is followed by Piaggio Vietnamand others.
Last year, the market witnessed the growth ofmotor scooters. With the average income of the Vietnamese people increasing,they chose motor scooters rather than manual transmission motorcycles. Forexample, Yamaha Vietnam sold 177,025 motor scooters last year, up 15 percentcompared with 2016, occupying 11.3 percent of the market share for motorscooters.
Motorcycle manufacturers also developedmotorbikes with high engine displacement. Yamaha has rolled out YZF-R3,followed by the naked bike version MT-03. In addition to this, the brand alsohas some other sports-oriented products such as TFX or YZF-R15.
Meanwhile, Honda also prepared for thedistribution of the Rebel 300, previously the Honda SH300i. Piaggio sold theVespa GTS Super 300, while it is planning to introduce Moto Guzzi and Apriliato the market. Currently, Suzuki’s GSX-S1000 and V-Strom 1000 models are alsoin the list of vehicles with high engine displacement.-VNA
