Russian PM compliments Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev granted the Order of Friendship, a state decoration of the Russian Federation, to General Director of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre Nguyen Hong Du on November 19 for his contributions to the bilateral relations.

Hanoi (VNA) – Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev granted the Orderof Friendship, a state decoration of the Russian Federation, to GeneralDirector of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre Nguyen Hong Du on November 19 for his contributionsto the bilateral relations.

He also presented a Certificate of Honour to the centre’sstaff, while visiting the centre within the framework of his official visit toVietnam from November 18-19.

The Russian leader affirmed that over the past few years,the centre’s scientists have conducted a number of studies in the tropicalregion for both countries’ interests and within the cooperation framework.

Effective cooperation between Russian and Vietnamesescientists have produced important results in science and application, withseveral of the centre’s scientific products proving effective and useful.

The research results have contributed to protecting the ecosystemand enabling further studies for biological resources in Vietnam, especially inareas affected by toxic chemical, he affirmed.

Speaking of the collaboration between the two countries atthe centre, PM Medvedev considered it a factor towards developing bilateralrelations not only in sci-tech, but also in the military, consolidating thecomprehensive ties.

Founded on March 7, 1988 under an agreement betweenVietnam’s Ministry of National Defence and the Russian Academy of Sciences, thecentre works to study biology, medicine, environmental pollution, and thetreatment of the effects of dioxin in Vietnam.

The centre operates in three main fields: tropicalendurance, tropical ecology, and tropical biomedicine. It also works on theapplication and transfer of technology, provides scientific-technologicalservices, and facilitates the further training of scientists.

The centre is also in charge of coordinating collaborationamong research organisations of Vietnam and Russia. More than 4,000 Russianscientists, including many leading experts, have worked at the centre.Coordination between the centre and its partners from the Republic of Korea,Canada, and Japan has proven effective. –VNA
