Hanoi (VNA) - A military delegation of Russia led by Lieut.Gen. Kuralenko Sergey Vasilievich, Deputy Commander-in-chief for PeacekeepingOperations of the Russian Ground Forces, visited the Vietnam PeacekeepingDepartment (VPD) in Hanoi on June 15.
VPD Director Colonel Hoang Kim Phung welcomed the Russian delegation’strip and its experience shared with the department.
Phung spoke highly of Russia’s position, role and contributions to theUnited Nations peacekeeping operations.
As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) andthe seventh biggest contributor of finance, Russia has great influence andvoice in the UNSC as well as in establishing and implementing peacekeepingmissions, he said.
In addition, Russia is one of the biggest providers of goods andservices for the United Nations peacekeeping operations, Phung stressed.
Phung hoped that the Russian Ministry of Defence will continue assistingand sharing its information, experience and professional skills in peacekeepingoperations with the VPD via joint training courses and seminars, especially intraining Vietnamese officers who directly participate in UN peacekeepingmissions.
Kuralenko said the ongoing visit aimed to enhance the efficiency ofcoordination in peacekeeping operations between Russian and Vietnam.
He promised to make greater efforts to further promote relations betweenthe defence ministries of Russia and Vietnam, and create favourable conditionsfor developing peacekeeping operations of the two nations and in the world.
Following the working session, the Russian delegation had an exchangewith lecturers and learners of an international training course at the VPD.-VNA
