Hanoi (VNA) — HanoiRun for Children 2016 will take place in the Thong Nhat Park, Hanoi from 7:00am on December 11 to raise funds for the treatment of disadvantaged childrenwith cancer and heart disease.
The annual event is jointly organised by theVietnam-Canada Friendship Association, the Hanoi Union of FriendshipOrganisations, the Embassy of Canada and sponsors.
Canadian Ambassador toVietnam Ping Kinikone highlighted the significance of the event saying that it aimsto join hands to help disadvantaged children while consolidating the bilateralties between Vietnam and Canada.
She pledged that the Embassywill continue supporting Vietnam’s community-oriented prorgrammes andinitiatives.
Echoing the Ambassador’sopinion, Nguyen Thi Hoi, Vice President of the Vietnam-Canada FriendshipAssociation said the event is a people-to-people diplomacy activity,representing the friendship between the two nations as well as between Vietnamesepeople and international friends.
The run raises about 1 billion VND (44,000 USD)each year, benefiting more than 300 needy children to date, she added.
The money raised from the event will be donatedto the Heart Beat Vietnam programme, patients at the Vietnam National Hospitalof Peadiatrics and Hanoi Heart Hospital.
Several celebrities are scheduled to take part inthis year’s run, including People’s Artist Le Khanh, football player Hoang VuSamson, Miss Vietnam 2016 Do My Linh, and actor Phan Anh./.
