RoK-supported project to give more employment chances to the blind

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Blind Association andthe Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Siloam Centre for the Blind on October 7 signed amemorandum of understanding on cooperation in a project to support the blind inVietnam in 2019.

During a ceremony in Hanoi to introduce the project andlaunch training courses, President of the association Pham Viet Thu said thatthe centre will send specialists to help train Vietnamese blind in massaging,Braille letter printing and using technological software and equipment.

The centre will also provide the association with 50 magnifyingglasses and software as well as fee for Braille book printing for blindstudents nationwide.

Thu said that the project is significant for the blind inVietnam as it provides them with more chances to enhance their skills, increaseincome and improve their living conditions.

After graduating, the trainees are expected to continuetransferring the skills and knowledge to their fellows across the country.

Director of Siloam Centre Dongic Choi said that massaging isthe most suitable profession for the blind, but it has yet to be popularized inSoutheast Asia.

With their knowledge and skills acquired in the US and theUK, he and trainers from the centre hope to help the blind in Vietnam gain modernmassaging skills so that they will have more employment chances and brighterfuture./.
