Hanoi (VNA) – The Global Civic Sharing (GCS) organisation ofthe Republic of Korea (RoK) on January 20 presented a computer lab worth550 million VND (24,300 USD) to Lien Chau secondary school in Hanoi’s Thanh Oaidistrict, on the occasion of the 30th founding anniversary of the Vietnam-RoKdiplomatic ties.
It is part of a project backed by the Seoul GuaranteeInsurance Company (SGI), aiming at improving conditions for Vietnamesestudents. The lab comprises 35 computers, printers and Internet connection.
The SGI Dream Class project strives to build computer labs atdisadvantaged schools in Vietnam, enabling them to access information and technologies.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Representative of GCS VietnamOffice Choi Eun-gyo said numerous small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) ofthe RoK wish to support the Vietnamese people.
He spoke highly of the efforts by the Hanoi Union of FriendshipOrganisations (HAUFO) in fundraising work and assisting foreign agencies.
Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh, a ninth grader of the school, said asshe does not have a computer at home, the new one at school will help her studybetter.
This year, through HAUFO, the GCS Office in Vietnam willpresent two computer labs and libraries totalling 1.8 billion VND to someschools in My Duc district and Son Tay town of Hanoi./.
